It comes in about 75 individual pieces, anything that requires a screw is NOT pre-assembled. Thankfully the directions are decently detailed. The only part that I REALLY had a problem with is that there are grooves for the back facing boards to slide into, as well as for the bottoms of the drawers to slide into, only half of them ACTUALLY align correctly enabling you to fully slip in the piece required, unless you have a table saw to cut down the pieces of the back that don't slide in all the way, there is no way to put the table top piece onto the island. Thankfully we HAVE a table saw, but if we didn't I would have gotten this 3/4 of the way put together only to find that the grooves were not measured and placed accurately. Not very happy with this. After I finally got it assembled it's decent, sturdy and works. Don't stick anything to it even temporarily though or a layer of paint will peel right off when you go to remove it (all I put on it was washi tape, only left on dueing assembly, 5 hours, and when I peeled it off it took off a large strip of paint.)I would NOT buy it again. Make sure you have someone handy around to assemble this thing and a good solid 5 hours to do it. You'll likely need a table saw.
